  • Supporting Leaders through Lockdown and Beyond

Posted on 18 Jun 2020 in Staff College News

These are uncertain and confusing times and the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the critical importance of good leadership, especially in healthcare.  It is therefore encouraging to hear stories about how Staff College Members are making a significant difference.

Staff College, as you may know, has had to adapt to the effects of the pandemic and we have been working hard to ensure that we can continue to support those who need our help and expertise.  We believe that the development of leaders with the confidence, capacity and compassion to bring people together to work through the unfolding wicked problems in front of us is crucial.

While our formal programmes are currently postponed, we are continuing to offer support to the health and care system.  Some organisations are already thinking beyond the Covid-19 pandemic and have asked us to support them as they form new teams or adapt to the new environment.  At the same time, we are developing our thinking about innovative ways in which we can help teams in real time to develop better leadership, process and cohesion and have a range of means for providing support including, of course, via online meetings.

We’ll also be providing some useful resources to leaders while the lockdown restrictions continue:

    • A fortnightly blog to promote further thinking about current leadership issues from our faculty – you can read the first one below!
    • A monthly Talking Heads session via Zoom.  These will provide the opportunity to hear from healthcare leaders about the leadership challenges they’re experiencing with a forum for members to ask questions and share insights.  Further details will be shared imminently.
    • We’ll be regularly sharing stories of our members and their examples of outstanding leadership, lessons they’ve learnt and wish to pass on for the benefit of others.  To share your story, please get in touch at info@staffcollege.org
