Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) Conference 2024
Staff College were delighted to support the FMLM at their annual leadership and management conference for healthcare professionals. Staff College CEO, Charlie Brown, joined an expert panel looking at why the NHS needs managers and leaders, and explored whether the NHS is under or over-managed.
It looked at why management in the NHS is sometimes seen as the ‘dark side’ and why this is a problem. The panel discussed the role that regulation and cultural drivers play, and explored the barriers to more medics advocating and supporting NHS managers. They considered what could help managers and medics working in the NHS to better appreciate one another and their roles, and what could be gained for our workforce and for patients and communities from doing so.
The thoughts of the panel and their responses to questions from the audience will be written up in a think piece for the BMJ Leader so if you weren’t able to join the session, you will be able to read about this soon.
