A new report from the King’s Fund argues that London’s NHS faces growing pressures, with services in urgent need of change. It highlights that four out of the five most financially challenged NHS trusts in England are located in the capital and that the majority of its hospitals are struggling to meet new standards for the quality of care. It proposes an alternative way of managing major service changes across the capital which would give NHS England’s London office a city-wide planning role. It also proposes that leadership will be a key issue in managing these challenges.
